The Problem
As one of the leading platforms, MakersPlace facilitates countless transactions in between buyers and its creatives. As a result, bad actors target these artists and sell counterfeits of their work on secondary marketplaces, unauthorized duplicates that steal revenue from artists and damage trust with the community. MakersPlace has worked with artists to remove infringements and protect its community, but the reactive and manual process is challenging to scale.
The Solution
To solve these challenges, MakersPlace has rolled out MakersPlace Art Monitoring Service, powered by Doppel. Doppel’s NFT indexing and next-gen computer vision models enable detection of copyright infringements on the blockchain with minutes. Furthermore, it can distinguish between blatant copymint scams and well-intentioned fan derivatives that bolster an artist’s community presence.

Results
With MakersPlace Art Monitoring Service, dozens of copyright infringements were detected targeting artists like Trevor Jones, Matt Gondek, and Whisbe. This service was also tested during a launch in real-time for Matt Gondek’s Fight Club collection, enabling detection and takedown of copymints within minutes.
