After years with a prior provider, our customer’s team made the switch to Doppel for broader detection, faster takedowns, and a platform that didn't require constant oversight. Today, Doppel largely runs in the background, with the customer's security lead overseeing the process.
For years, the organization’s security lead had relied on the prior provider for digital risk protection. But as the threat landscape evolved, the team began seeing that the platform wasn’t keeping pace.
The team was discovering threats the provider had missed. The provider was slow to add new sources. Takedowns required too much manual oversight. And despite years of working with the platform, the team wasn't seeing the pace of innovation they needed.
“We were using a platform that was widely considered one of the best out there,” the security lead said. “But after two or three years, it was basically the same platform.”
The team had evaluated other providers before, particularly around renewal cycles. They weren't satisfied with the provider, but they also hadn't found an alternative compelling enough to justify switching.
Then they evaluated Doppel.
The security lead's role spans internal security, application security, and brand protection, exposing the team to everything from fraudulent domains and social accounts to executive impersonation and recruitment scams.
One of the team's biggest frustrations with the provider was that they were still finding threats the platform wasn't. Outside researchers would flag malicious content, forcing the customer's team to go back to the provider and ask why it hadn't been detected in the first place.
“We would go back and ask, ‘Why aren't you catching this? When are you going to integrate with this platform?’” the security lead said. “They were very slow to respond, if they responded at all.”
Coverage wasn't evolving quickly enough either.
As attackers moved across new channels, the team watched its provider lag behind trends. The security lead recalled the platform being slow to add coverage for TikTok even as the social network became an increasingly relevant surface for impersonation, fraud, and brand abuse.
For a team tasked with defending an organization across a constantly changing internet, that wasn't a minor product gap.
“If your platform isn't changing with the internet, you're always going to be behind the attackers,” he said.
Putting Doppel to the test
The team wasn't interested in a new provider based on a sales pitch. Doppel had to prove it could perform.
So the team put the platforms head-to-head. Detection was the primary success criterion. At minimum, Doppel needed to match what was already being found. To justify a switch, it needed to show that it could find more.
The evaluation quickly validated the difference. Doppel uncovered threats its competitor was missing.
The team also saw the difference in takedown execution. During the trial alone, Doppel identified two malicious domains for removal within 24 hours.
For the customer's team, the results provided the evidence they needed to move forward.
Doppel wasn't simply another alternative. It demonstrated that the team could get broader detection while spending less time managing the platform themselves.
But technology was only part of the decision.
The security lead wanted a provider that would keep evolving after the contract was signed.
“What we really look for is a company that can grow with us,” the security lead said. “Doppel is as agile as we are.”
Doppel continued to deliver
The difference in visibility became even clearer after deployment.
Doppel identified bad actors purchasing Facebook and Google ads using the organization's branding for their own financial gain, against the organization’s terms and conditions. Once Doppel began identifying and removing the fraudulent activity, the financial impact became impossible to ignore.
The security lead estimates that the newly identified scheme delivered significant value relative to the cost of Doppel. And that was just one category of threats the team gained greater visibility into after switching.
From managing threats every day to strategic oversight
The biggest difference may be what the security lead no longer has to do. With the prior provider, digital risk protection required daily attention. The security lead had to continually monitor the platform and stay involved in the takedown process to make sure work was moving forward.
With Doppel, much of that work happens automatically.
The security lead establishes the guardrails and automation rules for the threats the team wants removed. Doppel can then identify threats and initiate takedowns without requiring constant manual review or intervention. The more the system is tuned, the less hands-on management is required. And even then, it's typically a quick check-in rather than time spent actively managing the platform.
“The more we tune it, the less time I have to spend in the platform,” the security lead said. “That's great for me because I have limited time as it is.”
For someone responsible for far more than brand protection, the shift from daily, in-the-weeds management to strategic oversight is significant.
As the security lead explained: “I love how even when I'm not in the platform, things get done. With our prior provider, everything had to go through me, versus with Doppel, I only need to provide guardrails.”
A fake LinkedIn job appeared. Hours later, it was gone
The difference between the two providers isn't limited to what's inside the platform. The security leader also saw a fundamental change in what happens when his team needs help.
That became clear when an executive was contacted about a fraudulent LinkedIn job posting. The fake role used the organization's branding and recruiting content to appear legitimate. The security leader sent the threat directly to Doppel through Slack. Within hours, Doppel escalated the incident, and the fraudulent content was removed.
The experience stood in stark contrast to the relationship the organization had been accustomed to.
With the previous provider, communication was primarily email-based. With Doppel, the security lead has direct access to the people protecting the organization. He can flag an issue, get a prompt response, understand what happened, and work with the team to improve detection so similar threats are caught in the future.
“If we find something and give it to Doppel, there's an explanation, they take care of it, and then we can iterate on how to find something like that better in the future,” the security lead said.
It's the difference between submitting a request to a vendor and working directly with a security partner.
The previous provider wasn't evolving fast enough. Doppel keeps learning
The security lead doesn't expect any digital risk protection platform to detect every threat on the internet. That's not how he evaluates success. What matters is how quickly the platform and the people behind it respond when something new appears.
“There is no perfect platform in this space,” he said. “What matters is having a team that takes action quickly, learns from what was missed, and improves.”
That's ultimately what drove the move from the provider to Doppel. Before the switch, the customer's team was still finding threats through other channels, waiting for coverage to expand, and spending time every day managing the system.
With Doppel, they gained broader detection, faster takedowns, expanded visibility into fraud schemes, greater automation, and direct access to a team that continues adapting alongside the threat landscape.
The difference shows up in the security lead's day-to-day experience. He no longer has to constantly manage his digital risk protection platform.
He sets the guardrails. Doppel gets to work.
