Overview
M0 is building the modular stablecoin infrastructure where platforms and apps can launch configurable stablecoins. As the company rapidly scales, so does its visibility. And with it, the volume and sophistication of social engineering threats.
To stay ahead, M0 partnered with Doppel to shift from reactive security workflows to a proactive, real-time defense against impersonation, phishing, and brand abuse.
“Doppel transformed how we handle external threats. What used to take days of manual effort is now handled in real time, with full visibility into what’s targeting our brand and users. It’s allowed us to move from reacting to incidents to proactively managing risk as we scale.” – Nicole Shaefer, Senior Marketing Manager, M0
Growth brought visibility and a surge in external threats
M0 operates at the center of the digital asset ecosystem, supporting stablecoin builders and issuers across a rapidly evolving market. Since its founding in 2023, the company has scaled quickly, raising over $100M and onboarding major partners across crypto and fintech.
But with that growth came a new class of risk.
As M0’s brand gained recognition, attackers began targeting both the company and its ecosystem through impersonation, phishing campaigns, and fake domains. These threats weren’t confined to internal systems. They lived across social platforms, web infrastructure, and external channels that traditional security tools weren’t designed to monitor.
M0’s security team found themselves in a reactive loop. Identifying threats required manual effort, and takedowns could take days, leaving both users and the brand exposed.
“As a company in the financial space, protecting our brand and community is critical,” says Nicole Schaefer, Senior Marketing Manager at M0. “We were seeing impersonation, phishing, and fake domains targeting both our team and our users. Existing tools just didn’t give us the visibility or speed we needed.”
Extending the security perimeter beyond the organization
M0 recognized that traditional approaches, focused on internal systems, were no longer sufficient. The real attack surface had expanded outward.
They needed a solution that could operate where attackers were actually active: across social platforms, domains, and external digital surfaces.
The requirements were clear. Detection needed to be real-time. Takedowns needed to be fast. Visibility had to be centralized. And critically, the solution had to work without adding operational overhead to an already stretched security team.
Equally important was domain expertise. In crypto, threats evolve quickly and often exploit ecosystem-specific behaviors. M0 needed a partner that understood those nuances.
Turning a reactive process into a proactive system
M0 chose Doppel to address this gap due to its ability to detect and respond to threats quickly, especially across social channels, and its deep understanding of crypto-specific risk.
Implementation was immediate. Within minutes of onboarding, Doppel identified and took down suspicious pages and accounts targeting M0.
What had previously taken days became near-instant.
“We saw value immediately,” remembers Schaefer. “We had several questionable pages that Doppel took down the minute we were onboarded. It completely changed the speed at which we could respond.”
Doppel now operates as a core extension of M0’s security stack, continuously monitoring external channels, identifying threats in real time, and executing takedowns within 24 to 48 hours.
Instead of chasing down incidents manually, the team now has a system that proactively surfaces and mitigates risk.
From reactive response to real-time defense
With Doppel in place, M0 transformed how it manages social engineering threats.
The security team now has clear visibility into external risks, faster response times, and significantly reduced operational overhead. What was once a fragmented, manual process is now streamlined and automated.
The most meaningful shift, however, is strategic.
Security means anticipating and disrupting incidents before they spread. “The biggest change for us is efficiency. Doppel turned what used to be a reactive process into a proactive one,” says Schaefer.
Securing growth in a high-visibility market
As M0 continues to grow, so will the attention from attackers.
Following major announcements, such as its partnership with PayPal, the company has already seen spikes in impersonation and fraudulent activity, including fake accounts and inauthentic engagement. With additional partnerships on the horizon, that trend is expected to accelerate.
But the approach has changed.
Instead of reacting to each new wave of threats, M0 now has a system in place to handle them at scale.
“As we continue to grow, we expect more impersonation and fraudulent activity,” says Schaefer. “Having Doppel in place gives us confidence that we can handle that scale without increasing operational burden.”
External threats require external defense
For modern organizations, especially in high-growth, high-visibility industries like crypto, the attack surface no longer ends at the firewall. Brand, users, and ecosystems are all targets.
M0’s partnership with Doppel reflects a broader shift in security: extending protection beyond internal systems to detect, disrupt, and eliminate threats wherever they emerge.
Because in today’s landscape, the fastest-growing companies are often the most targeted, and the ones that scale securely are the ones that stay ahead.
