Former Recorded Future and Swimlane Executive Hideki Ushigome Joins Doppel as Country Manager for Japan

SAN FRANCISCO and TOKYO, August 3, 2026: Doppel, the AI-native Social Engineering Defense (SED) platform, today announced that cybersecurity veteran Hideki Ushigome has joined the company as Country Manager for Japan. In this role, he will lead Doppel’s growth, operations, partnerships, and customer strategy across the Japanese market.

Ushigome brings more than 25 years of experience in the technology and cybersecurity industries, with deep expertise in building and scaling businesses in Japan. He most recently served as Country Manager at Swimlane, where he led the relaunch of the company’s Japan operations and helped secure major government and financial services customers.

Before Swimlane, Ushigome spent more than five years as Japan Country Manager at Recorded Future, where he established the company’s Japanese operations and grew Japan into its second-largest market globally. He has also held Country Manager roles at Rapid7 and Websense, as well as senior leadership positions at Check Point and Sophos.

Ushigome’s appointment builds on Doppel’s formal expansion into Japan, announced in June.

Ushigome’s appointment marks the latest expansion of Doppel’s executive leadership team, following the June appointment of Ofir Ronen, who joined the company as Senior Vice President of Customer Success.

Addressing Japan’s Evolving Threat Landscape

Ushigome joins Doppel following the release of new threat intelligence from a honeypot project in Japan that captures phishing activity targeting Japanese users. Launched in June, the honeypot drew malicious activity immediately, with sensors receiving thousands of unsolicited messages during the first five weeks.

The findings offer new insight into how attackers tailor campaigns around the trusted brands and daily routines of their intended targets. Financial services and payments were the most impersonated category, accounting for 67.8% of impersonated brands, followed by e-commerce and fintech at 23.3%.

The research also revealed clear attack timing patterns. 67% of malicious lures arrived on Mondays or Fridays, while 47% arrived at either 9 a.m. or noon JST.

These founding team members will work closely with customers and partners from initial evaluation and deployment through adoption and ongoing operations, while helping ensure Doppel’s go-to-market strategy and platform experience reflect the needs of the Japanese market.
